Kind of like a tongue twister. There’s some alliteration if you will. And we’re going to be focused on Brazil Germany and Italy and O’Neil how are you doing today. Doing well and you. I’m doing great. So just break down that title for us. What are you talking about here the triumphant trio Brazil Germany and Italy.

All right so the triumphant triumphant trio.

It’s a tongue twister that I like Say it slowly and it is Brazil. Germany and Italy and they are the best. The top three teams in World Cup history. So when I talk about soccer a lot of you know my ideas my philosophies are based around the ideas of these you know three different teams their philosophies their systems and how that relates to you know everyday soccer Tulsa Soccer Training .

We were talking about this in a podcast once right. Yeah. This is where that idea came from I remember now because I saw your title for today and I was like the Triumph trio sounds like holy. So what do you want to tell us. Are we going to talk about all three teams are we focusing on one another how are you going to unpack this for us.

We’re going to focus on one at a time. And before we actually talk about each of those teams we’re talking about the background of the World Cup.

OK. So first some history on the World Cup. OK take it away. All right. So Tulsa Soccer Training

the World Cup was started in 1930 by a Frenchman named Jules Remmae remit and he served as the FIFA president for 33 years and it was the longest serving president. So he was the originator of it all. And I have a question about that.

Do you know why did he come up with that idea personally.

Was it kind of like this consortium like a team effort of ideas about what should we do for soccer Do you know I do not know. That’s a very good question. We’ll have to look it up and say yes. OK.

Tulsa Soccer Training  So the World Cup as most of you may know is played every four years. So that’s kind of what makes it so special it’s not every year event so it takes four four years for each World Cup to appear. It takes two years to qualify and usually the other two years. There’s a time where they’re revamping their team and doing different things. And also in the middle of those two years there’s usually some kind of a continent tournament like the European Championship where African Nations Cup.

OK. I didn’t know that it takes two years to qualify for the World Cup. We break that down for me. I mean I knew you had to qualify to get in but I didn’t know it was like a two year process. How does that work.

Well basically what happens is you break down the world into different regions and so you have the European region the Asian region you have conquered calf conscionable which South American teams and you have the just like the Caribbean you have so many different groups that come in play against each other and they’re all broken down. So what happens is all the teams in the world actually compete. All the countries in world compete try to get to the World Cup. And once you qualify and you get to the second rate you’re competing like in your region Tulsa Soccer Training .

Yes. Right. So you’re not competing against everybody is just your dream. That’s correct.

This is a region up first and then as you beat your region and you qualify and they take like maybe eight teams from Europe or four teams from Africa three teams from conquered calf and so forth. And

if you make those top you know top a top for however many you get to go play in the World Cup now I feel like I watched this one time with the like the drawings that they do because how do they decide how many teams can advance from a region like there’s this whole like scientific process. I mean it’s like a kind of like an election. You know what I mean like isn’t it or how does that work Tulsa Soccer Training .

Yeah. To some degree they decide like we’re the strongest teams come from and they usually give that region more numbers so for instance Europe usually has the strongest teams. So they give more teams to Europe to to come into the World Cup.

OK. Playing devil’s advocate here that sounds kind of unfair. What’s the justification behind that because I’m sure like somebody listening is thinking that and it kind of flipped it through my mind I know you and I have talked about this before. Why is that fair. Why is it OK to give preferential treatment to more like quote unquote successful regions because like what if I’m in an unsuccessful region. But I’m like the next Cristiano Ronaldo. You know how do you do.

With you I don’t have a comment. I mean anything to make on that. I agree totally. I think it should be the equal amount for each each region but something else will have to look into and figure out why they do it that way.

Tulsa Soccer Training  And also over the years they’ve expanded it to where it’s got more and more teams have been included. So at one time I think it was 16 teams and then another time it was like 32. And I think now it’s about 38 or around there. But I’m just going off my memory.

OK. So what else. All right.

So originally there is this trophy called it was called the The victory or called victory. And that was the name of the actual World Cup trophy. Later it was renamed the jewels Rehema trophy but it represented Nike the Greek goddess of victory. And so it was based. The base was made from lupis lazuli which is really a beautiful place.

What are you talking about. That sounds like a different language.

What are you saying that the base of the actual the trophy or the trophy itself wasn’t made out of this like luminescent is it blue blue.

It’s just the material. OK. It sounds like those were French words. I don’t think you have. What does that mean. OK.

So it’s a real beautiful material that’s actually described in the Bible too.

I actually came across it right when I was doing this it was kind of like a pretty blue light blue crystal clear blue water that you see in the Caribbean. That’s right.

And then it’s coated with gold like it’s gold plated and it was really beautiful. So the way Jules Rhema did it is he said whoever wins the first three times whoever wins World Cup three times didn’t matter if it was in a row didn’t matter if it took eight 20 years it didn’t matter how long but whoever won the World Cup three times would get to keep the trophy so it was a pretty unique idea. And even you know studying the history of it I remember as a kid when I heard about it that’s pretty cool.

Like who ever won three times gets to keep it who won the World Cup three times or won three times of what won the World Cup three times. So you to win that trophy initially you had to wait 12 years four years to get to go to the next World Cup. But you had to win it three times. Yes. So you had to wait 12 years to get the trophy at the very least the very least. So for instance like if you won every single time then right oh my gosh. So if you didn’t win every single time you did. Oh my gosh. And that was the first was that the first time to win the trophy. Well this is when it all first. So the first World Cup was won by Uruguay Tulsa Soccer Training .

And the second World Cup was won by Italy and the third. But Italy again. So you can kind of see how it’s been.

Who won the actual trophy for the first time. That’s right. Brazil Brazil won. So anyway for the first time in the world cup or the war actually got to keep the trophy itself I don’t know what are we talking about here. I thought we were talking about whoever wins the World Cup three times gets the trophy. Yes. Who did that. Brazil won it three times. Oh my god it wasn’t in a row. So it took a long time for someone to win the first trophy. But they don’t do it like that anymore. No no no. Oh my gosh. So you said it. Brazil not Brazil. Italy won twice. Yeah. Your guy won twice. Yeah. Where did Brazil come in with all that.

Tulsa Soccer Training  So I’ll give you the history in just a moment. I wanted to continue on. But here’s here’s where it goes 1930. Uruguay won in 1934 Italy won 38 was Italy again and then there was World War II world stopped and there was no World Cup for a while because of the war. And then in 1950 Brazil won in Uruguay.

That was their first World Cup that they ever won and they both won. I’m sorry. Uruguay won in 1950 in Brazil. OK got your picture and that was when Pele was a little kid. And there’s a story about him his dad was crying in that Brazil lost in Brazil and Brazil made to the finals against Uruguay in Uruguay won. Gotcha. And that’s the I don’t know what sparked Pele to say I’ll win.

Yeah well hopefully we will find out. What I asked in the next podcast we’re out of time for this and I’m trying not to be salty here because I want to know who like how did that play out for that first World Cup but we’re out of time for this one so I don’t have Remember my question for the next podcast.
